IPC/WHMA-A-620C - Requirements & Acceptance For Cable & Wire Harness Assembly

IPC/WHMA-A-620C is a compendium of requirements for assembly of cable and harness assemblies. This 4-day lecture certification class provides a review of requirements for assembly of Class 1, 2, and 3 products. It is modularized to provide flexibility in user requirements. A CIS exam is included for each module.

An optional, 1-day lab is available for hands-on assembly of a wiring harness with a mix of crimped terminations.

Upon completing the course, the CIS receives an IPC/WHMA-A-620C certificate identifying each module successfully completed. This certificate is valid for 24 months. Recertification includes review of the IPC/WHMA-A-620C document and written exams.

Module 1: Course Introduction (Mandatory)

Module 1 introduces the IPC Policies and Procedures document and introductory topics and definitions in the IPC-620C standard.

Module 2: Crimped Terminations (Optional)

Includes a review of design features of Stamped and Formed Open and Closed Barrel terminations, machined contacts, flat cable, and discrete wire terminations.

Module 3: Soldered Terminations (Optional)

Addresses materials, cleanliness, lead prep, and solder requirements for common terminals.

Module 4: Connectorization, Over-Molding and Potting (Optional)

Reviews hardware mounting, strain relief, sleeving, and damage to connector hardware.

Module 5: Splices (Optional)

Specifies assembly, solder criteria, and splicing detail for common splices.

Module 6: Marking, Labeling, Securing (Optional)

Summarizes marking/labeling and lacing requirements for coaxial and biaxial cable assemblies.

Module 7: Coaxial and Biaxial Cable Assemblies (Optional)

Stripping, crimping, and soldering of coaxial and biaxial shielded wire.

Module 8: Solderless Wire Wrap (Optional)

Specifies criteria for turn/turn spacing, end tails, and raised turns for solderless wrap.
